My friends, I am trying to be patient right now. In fact, I'm at the point where I will say that I miss the buzzing and I miss the noise. I miss those sounds because that meant that something was being done in the mess of my kitchen. The silence is daunting. The silence means that we're still out of tile, we still don't have granite, and we still don't have a painter. So, has the silence taught me to appreciate anything? Absolutely - THE NOISE!! Now, I will probably be griping about the noise in no time at all, but for now, please return to me! Yes, the noise meant house arrest and watching Shiner sleep all day. It also meant getting homework done (6 papers down!!) and that we were closer to the end. I realize that we have only been at this for a week, but it has been a loooong week. The tile guys worked for 2 days (Monday and Tuesday), and now they won't finish until at least Monday. The granite will be next week or the week after, and who knows about the paint?? FYI, if you know about the paint, please call me. So, this is me, trying to be patient. Justin is probably ready to wring my neck about now, but I like progress here folks! I feel like I'm that lady in the old Macy's commercials saying "Open, open, open." That and poor Shiner has been told so many times that he can't go into the kitchen that he's going to get a complex. The kitchen rug used to be his safe haven, and now he's resigned to a life in the living room. Yes, he leads such a sheltered life.Speaking of Shiner, he got a haircut today! How is he recovering from the ordeal? How does Shiner cope with anything? By sleeping, of course. So, in honor of that, behold Shiner in his best forms. Also notice the new tile in its unfinished form! Have a great weekend!

So it all has officially started! If anything, the dust and constant buzzing is proof. I've found that the best way to observe this is from afar. I'm in the bedroom with the door closed hoping that they are just tearing up tile not drilling a hole to Alaska as it sounds like they are. Now the afar that I'd like to be observing it from is Mexico, but hey, someone has to run this show!
A haze has settled over the house, so I'm sure the next house cleaning will be so fun! Thanks to Menielle for the warning that no matter how much you cover the rest of the house, it'll still be covered in dust. In fact, the bedroom is hazy and the door is shut. Now, how, you might ask, is little Shiner coping with all of this stress? Have no fear...the brave dog....is SLEEPING through EVERYTHING. Perhaps our 4 mile walk this morning wore him out, or maybe he could teach me how to relax while the floor is literally crumbling around me.
So, they tore up the tile today, and they'll be back tomorrow to put in the new tile. The pictures of the dust and all its glory are below. The last picture is one that I can't even believe that I'm sharing. It's where our kitchen, dining room, breakfast area, and my classroom have gone to die. Maybe not die, but at least wait out their days. All in all, the tiling process will take about 3 days. Hey, I can handle almost anything for 3 days. Right? Ask me Wednesday. Well, I think the banging and humming and buzzing that is the circus in my kitchen has stopped. Well, of course, the noise still dwells somewhere in my ears. I know it will be worth it in the end. I just hope that since the granite person isn't scheduled, the paint person hasn't been found yet, and the oven is on backorder, that the end isn't scheduled for 2010. Does anyone else hear that buzzing noise??
